On Course Bathrooms

As one of the owners/developers, Tenna Merchent enjoyed adding a female perspective to the course. She was the one who insisted that we have three bathrooms actually out on the course. Prior to building our course, she belonged to a private club that had port-a-potties on course. She found that appalling. She had traveled to lovely resorts, with on course bathrooms, and wanted the women at Purgatory Golf Club to be treated like they were at a resort.

As a result, our guests never go more than four holes without passing a bathroom. When she was pregnant with her son, she refused to play anywhere else, because quick access to a bathroom was very important to her.

Our on course bathrooms have hot running water, separate men’s and women’s facilities, tissues, seat covers, and mirrors. When Tenna was purchasing the hardware to hold the seat covers, she asked the gentlemen at the course if they would like seat covers in their facilities, and they responded, “What are seat covers?” she was amused, and decided to spend the money on the ladies facilities instead.

In the clubhouse, you will find separate water closets for each toilet. So each toilet is completely enclosed with it’s own fan that comes on automatically when the door closes. Complimentary toiletries are always out, such as perfume, hair spray, mouthwash, hand cream, sunscreen, wet wipes, band aids, bug repellant, feminine hygiene products, and a blow drier. We even have mints and Hershey kisses in our ladies room.

After she purchased and set out all the appropriate toiletries for the ladies room, she overheard one of our PGA pros saying “Have you seen the ladies room?! They have everything in there!” Apparently she had been more generous outfitting the ladies room than the men’s. She did remedy that situation by setting the men up with after shave and all the other fine touches.
