Lovely new artwork

We now have a limited edition of prints made from the original artwork that hangs above our mantel in the Confessional.

What is a Giclee Print?

From the French word verb “to spray”, the word Giclee (jee-clay) is used to describe a certain standard in printmaking technology.

The production offices are located in North Carolina. All active and post production work is done at this facility.  Blice Edwards works closely with their printers in all aspects of production to insure the best possible reproduction of their work.

They first produce an original painting, in this case, oil on canvas, like the one you see that hangs above the fireplace in the Purgatory Golf Club Dining Room.  They then have it professionally photographed, and then the negative is sent to their production facility to be scanned by a high resolution scanner, and put on a CD.  The image is transferred to a computer so that color corrections can be made to insure the best possible matching to our original image.  Once the color corrections are completed to our satisfaction, the image is ready to print.  In Giclee printing, the ink is actually sprayed onto the canvas or water color paper using inkjet technology.  The color and vibrancy is so astounding it often fools the eye of the beholder, making it almost impossible to distinguish the print from the original.

ABOUT EDITION SIZES

Limited-Edition:  A predetermined number of giclee’s published from an original work of art.  The total number of giclee’s is fixed by the artist in order to create a scarcity of the print.  The artist’s signature is usually found in one the lower corners of the gilcee and is accompanied by a number that looks like a fraction.  The top number indicates the number of gilcee and the bottom indicates the number of gilcee’s in the edition.

The cost for the the 40 x 28 size print, which is the same size as the original is $1,200 and for a 24 x 17 is $700.
