Ladies Night May 2012

What a fabulous evening! The amazing group of women that come out for our ladies night, well there just aren’t enough adjectives to describe them but I’ll try. They are witty, fun, bright, stylish, athletic, and on time (that’s a jab at the guys ) to name just a few.

The guys forgot to turn off the sprinklers, which were aimed right at us as we were waiting to go off. So more than a few of us got wet. Luckily it helped us stay cool. Here are some of my very favorite group & action shots from the evening.

Why is he hitting it off the toe of the golf club?

In this video, Mike Merchent, Director of Golf shows us why this junior golfer is hitting his ball off the toe of his club. Turns out he is coming out of his posture as he rotates his hips, and as a result is pulling his shoulders and arms up. End result, hitting it off the toe.

To fix it, he focuses his student on his left heal because it was also coming up and “flying out”. By keeping his left heal on the ground as he clears his hip, the end result is he stays in his posture, keeps his shoulders & arms in proper swing plane, and hits the ball more in the center of the face, or the “sweet spot”.

Foggy Morning over the 15th Tee

In this photo we’re standing on the black tee of the 15th hole. This hole is a par 4 and from this tee the hole is 434 yards. The fairway gets narrow right around the tree, but the saving grace is the huge putting green, with a vary generous bailout to the right. There is a substantial boulder just to the left of the tree, that one associate wanted to paint our logo on during the golf course construction. We decided against that action and kept it in it’s natural state.

Improve Your Golf Game by Practicing Lag Putting

In this short video, Jon Stutz shows you how to improve your golf game by focusing on two putting. Instead of standing up to the ball and trying to knock it in the hole right away, he suggests focusing on getting the ball to stop within two feet of the hole. This way you are set up for a two putt on every green, something we’d all be happy to achieve.

With lag putting you are focusing on speed of the ball, because you don’t want it to go flying past the hole. You want that ball to stop within a two foot radius of the hole, that way, all you have to do is go up, and tap it in. He uses tees in this lesson to help you envision the halo around the hole. Time Lapse Video Across the 1st Tee

I’ve always wanted to do a time lapse video, but I didn’t understand the technical aspects of how to capture the images and then stitch them together to create a movie. Time lapse movies take pictures more slowly than traditional video does, therefore it appears to speed things up, because of the gaps between shots.

For this video, I used my iTouch, stuck to the proshop window with poster tack, and used the app iTimeLapse from the app store to capture one image per second for 6,000 images at a resolution of 720×960. I then had the app stitch the images together at 24 frames per second with the same resolution.

I edited the video a little bit, added an opening and closing graphic, and some iLife music, and voila, our little time lapse mini piece (verses masterpiece

K-vest Biofeedback for Posture & Alignment

In this short video (a little over 4 minutes) Jon Stutz & Brian Pearce demonstrate how the K-vest technology uses music and animation to assist the player in modifying their posture & alignment quickly & intuitively. The people behind the K-vest have analyzed the swings of touring professionals to create a frame of reference for the best possible swing. This demonstration is just a tiny bit of what is offered by the technology. We plan to share other ways to incorporate it in future shows. Hope you like it!

Feels Like Scotland

The average temperature in April for St. Andrews Scotland, the birthplace of golf, is a high of 50° and a low 30°. It is said they have 6 months of winter, and 6 months of rain. So any day that isn’t raining, is a good day for golf, and even a rainy day is a good day for golf as long as there isn’t lightening.

Early morning at the course, especially after a rain makes me feel like I’m in Scotland. It’s cool, quite and misty. As long as I’m bundled up, there’s no place else I’d rather be.

This photo is taken just after sunrise from the white tee on the second hole, which is a par 4.
